Rules & Tips

Protect the planets from asteroids! Different sized asteroids do different amounts of damage. A single impact from a large asteroid is enough to destroy a planet!

Lose three planets or all your lives and it's game over!

Don't ignore small asteroids! They do less damage, but as big asteroids are replaced their number will increase fast! Don't get stuck in an asteroid field while getting chased by enemy units.

Enemy ships have a chance to drop a weapon upgrade. There will always be a weapon upgrade available for you, new ones spawn in on game start or when you respawn if no other upgrades exist in the level. Check your minimap!

You don't have to stick to your basic cannon, hunt down the weapon upgrade! Laser fires a dual three-round burst. Plasma vulcan has an incredibly high rate of fire but easily overheats, don't sustain fire for too long!

Quantum warp can get you out of a jam, but it also might launch you into an asteroid or the star. Use it if needed, but be careful!

Use caution when flying at high speeds. If you go too fast and collide with something, you could take 2 or even 3 damage. Watch your minimap for obstacles!

This is my Asteroids clone for the 20 game challenge. I'm mainly doing this challenge to get used to Godot, and I likely won't actually do 20 games if I feel I'm comfortable enough.

Hey this is great!! I adore the sound effects and music, the 8-bit vocals, its great. One thing, I was hoping for a fullscreen button because the resolution is larger than my screen. Without wraparound it would be SUPER easy to get lost in deep space haha.. Good thing you keep the character within some sort of bounds

(1 edit)

Oh good point, iirc I'm pretty sure the window is 1280x720 but I didn't consider others may have small screens than that right now. Considering the base res is 640x360 I should have allowed it to start there instead.

(ever thought of adding gravity to the planet?)

(1 edit)

The thought crossed my mind, as well as adding planet orbit around the star, but to account for those in the already spaghetti-like code for enemy pathfinding and behaviour was too much without designing for it from the start haha

In a future game maybe, I wanted to move on toward other projects for now though!
